Only a northerner would have a recipe for hoagies. And ONLY Jersey tomatoes are worth the time! :) My Celiac body is craving a stinking hoagie roll from the north. Thanks! :)

I used to work in a Mom & Pop deli in Jersey... we had a wicked lunch rush from the local factory... I got pretty good at making those hoagies & fast, too. And you're right, there's nothing like a good Jersey tomato, although I have found that the Publix "Ugly" tomatoes (imported from parts North) taste amazingly like the ones we remember from home.... Alas, they don't carry them year-round.

So...just where does one find "crusty-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside" torpedo rolls? That problem has plagued me since I left Chicago in '90.

Yea, that's the question isn't it?! Publix "submarine rolls" come close... some days. I'm tempted to try baking them myself. I'll let y'all know how that turns out. LOL
