With the forewarning that I am a Yankee through & through, I have a comment.
Southerners.... can actually be genuinely nice people--and good neighbors.

awwww. cool.
however, I got called "honey" about 15 times in a 5 minute conversation today with our insurance agent.

I am 32 years old. I do not want people calling me "honey" unless they're over 80 or related to me in some very close way.

Yeah, I think our neighbor lady is going to be one of those honey people... but that's OK. She has kids my age (almost)--has grand kids anyway. I couldn't believe it... We were taking back the basket she'd brought muffins over in the day we moved in... and wound up staying & chatting til almost 10:45pm last night. Her husband is out from work on medical leave so neither of them had to get up... so we just chatted away. Was nice! :-)
